Driven by Experience. Led by the Community.

Meet the refugee founders and team members building clean energy solutions and local jobs from inside Nakivale Refugee Settlement.

Founder's Message

"We started Nakivale Solar Stoves & Energy Solutions Association because we lived the challenges of fuel scarcity, high charcoal prices, and toxic indoor smoke every day. True sustainability begins when the community affected by a problem leads the design of the solution."

Avith Mpfukamensabe
Founder and CEO

Avith lives in Nyarugugu C Village. In 2020 he began building stoves that cook with sunlight, and pressing household waste into green charcoal briquettes. Today young refugees build the stoves and women earn daily wages collecting the waste.

Our core values

Refugee-Led Innovation

We design solutions rooted in the lived realities and direct feedback of our community.

Environmental Stewardship

Protecting Nakivale's local ecosystems by reducing tree cutting and repurposing organic waste.

Economic Empowerment

Women earn daily wages collecting waste. Young refugees earn by building the stoves and briquettes.

Community Resilience

Building long-term self-reliance through sustainable energy access.

One founder’s idea is now a team’s daily work.

Avith started building solar stoves in Nakivale. Today young refugees and women from the settlement build, fuel and repair them. Meet the people who keep it going
