The People Behind Clean Energy in Nakivale

Meet the refugee founders, youth technicians, and community collection teams driving sustainable cooking and local employment in Nakivale Refugee Settlement.

Meet the people who build your stove

Behind every Nakivale solar stove is a small team of young refugees, led by founder and CEO Avith Mpfukamensabe. They cut the metal, fit the solar panel and fan, and test each stove before it reaches a home. They also repair what they build. If a stove has a problem, you are not sending it away. You are talking to the person who made it.

The neighbours who fuel the work

Our work does not stop at the workshop. Women from the settlement collect household waste and crop residues for daily wages, and the team presses it into the green charcoal briquettes that back up the solar stoves.Every person here is someone from the community, earning an income and learning a skill that stays in Nakivale.

Technical Advisory and Partners

Ashden and technical mentors
Our team does not work alone. Ashden, an international clean energy charity, has given us technical guidance since the early days of the project. Their advice helped us shape how the work developed and has supported our growth since.

Project and advisory support
With this support, our team has built skills in running a business, managing projects and marketing, so the people building the stoves also learn how to grow the enterprise. It also helps us improve the stoves, strengthen our production, and plan how to reach more refugee-hosting communities across Uganda.
